{"id":100,"date":"2020-02-13T06:58:06","date_gmt":"2020-02-13T06:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/plasticfreestamford.co.uk\/?p=100"},"modified":"2020-02-13T10:55:29","modified_gmt":"2020-02-13T10:55:29","slug":"roses-are-red-valentines-day-run-goes-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/plasticfreestamford.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/02\/13\/roses-are-red-valentines-day-run-goes-green\/","title":{"rendered":"Roses are red&#8230;.Valentine&#8217;s Day run goes green"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stamfordstriders.org\/Pages\/St-Valentines-30k\">The St Valentine\u2019s 30k<\/a> road race, organised by <a href=\"http:\/\/stamfordstriders.org\/\">Stamford Striders Running Club<\/a>, is embracing green initiatives to support the <a href=\"https:\/\/plasticfreestamford.co.uk\/\">Plastic Free Stamford <\/a>campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking place on 16th February, the race is aiming to be kinder of the environment and will fulfil specific criteria to help Stamford\u2019s bid to become a plastic free community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organisers have taken the decision to rid the event of carrier bags to hold \u2018goodies\u2019 for race finishers and of plastic cups at the water stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the running shirts given to competitors will be made from recycled bottles, and they are being printed in a way that prevents particles of plastic \u2018leaking\u2019 into the eco system through washing machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The race medals will also be produced without any paint in the design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Race director Mark Alderson said: \u201cAs a club, we have put a lot of time and effort into finding initiatives that will make our race as environmentally friendly as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome \u2018greener\u2019 products cost more, but we believe in looking after the environment and the principles of a growing number of runners, so we\u2019ve taken the view that if going greener costs a bit more, then so be it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All waste from the 30k event will be taken away for recycling.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The race, which attracts up to 750 competitors, is one of the most popular running events in the region, with the 2020 event having sold out within a few hours of opening to entries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The St Valentine\u2019s 30k road race, organised by Stamford Striders Running Club, is embracing green initiatives to support the Plastic Free Stamford campaign.
